How to improve shot blasting rate

Shot blasting rate is a measure of the efficiency of shot blasting machine and performance of the main economic indicators. Calculation of shot blast rate, should include the no-load power. This can be a comprehensive assessment of the design, manufacture, assembly quality, so there is a practical significance, calculate the shot blasting rate formula is as follows:


According to the measured shot blast rate data analysis, the main ways to improve the shot blasting rate are as follows:

1.The design, manufacture and installation quality of the shot blasting machine have a great influence on the no-load power and shot-blast rate of the shot blasting device. Such as the main bearing and the dust ring too tight, after impeller assembly is too heavy, the gap of intake tube and impeller is too large or radial dislocation, etc., can lead to increases no-load power and reduce shot blast rate.

From the formula can be seen in a certain amount of shot blasting volume, the more no-load power, the greater the total power consumption is also increased accordingly, thus the shot blasting rate will reduce.

2.From the results in Table 1 and Figure 2, Figure 4 shows that the size of impeller has a certain impact on shot blast rate. If the same amount of shot blasting volume, use small diameter impeller, the power consumption is smaller, and the shot blasting rate is higher accordingly.

3. Blasting speed of shots, has a great impact on the shot blasting rate. Because when the speed is high, then the kinetic energy is big, consumes power to be big, the shot blasting rate is low. Conversely, the shot blasting rate is high.
According to the relevant information at home and abroad, the current of various types of shot blasting device, the blasting speed is 60-85 m / s. This speed can meet the surface cleaning, surface strengthening, shot blasting and other technology requirements. Therefore, the main method to improve the shot blasting rate is choose the blasting speed reasonably.

Test results show that: for the shot blasting, the blasting speed in 60 ~ 76 m / s is more reasonable. Therefore, we should according to the different parts of the process requirements, to choose the reasonable speed. Try to use the lower blasting speed when it can achieve the requirements.

4. the size of wheel hubs also has a greater impact on shot blasting rate. diameter of wheel hubs is small, shot blast rate is high. Conversely, shot blasting rate is low. The reason is that the wheel hubs diameter is small, generally the speed is slow than the large diameter, so less power consumption. Followed by a small wheel hubs diameter of the blasting device, the power consumption for the blower and air consumption itself is also less than the large diameter, so the shot blasting rate is high.

Test results show that: shot blast device with wheel hubs diameter of 360 mm, used for blower and empty running, the power consumption is 2.2 kw. Diameter is 420 mm, consumed power is 2.5 kw. diameter of 500 mm, the power consumption is 3kw.

5.Shot blast device with small wheel hubs diameter, has the characteristics of a high shot rate, besides, it has a small vibration, the use of flexible, easy to layout and arrangement in the design, maintenance and replacement convenience and so on. So in recent years, many foreign company often use  a larger number of small diameter of the shot blasting device for surface cleaning, surface strengthening, Shot peening and so on.

6. under the same conditions, the steel cut wire shot has more higher shot blasting rate than the cast iron shot. The the main factors and impact of influnencing shot blasting as mentioned above.
